I tried to draw ultrablonde hair several times in the past, and have never been quite satisfied because it always turned out looking too dark against the white background. So, this time I added a darker background and I think it works fine: the hair really pops out

My first attempt at drawing this girl can be found here (Sideways Glance). I never really liked this first try for a variety of reasons, but I think the main problem is the face: my main goal with most drawings is to capture cuteness, which turns out to be quite an elusive quality. I feel Sideways Glance just falls short... it's hard to pin down and may literally hinge on a single pencil stroke. Seriously, it often amazes me how the tiniest changes in shading can affect the general perception of a drawing, especially in the face. The one above works much better in this respect.
