Black Haired Girl

OK... so the girl is entirely hand-drawn (pencil). I added the background texture digitally (not very expertly, as you see from the pixelation artifacts), the original was plain white. I think it looks great - but I don't like it at all, because it is fake (i.e. not entirely hand-made). But this tells me that I really need to add some background to my drawings... probably some kind of graphite wash (?), but I don't know how to do this. I will have to experiment.
